Uploading Media

Simian offers several easy options for uploading media.

  1. Web Uploader - Media Library
  2. Web Uploader - Projects
  3. Real Time Video Encoder (RTVE)

Upload to Media Library

  1. From the global top nav, mouseover Media Library and select Upload to launch the Uploader.
  2. Optionally, Select a Category to upload to, Assign Credits to display Credits associated with the chosen Category and/or select Add Tags to add tags to your media to make content more searchable. (tag keywords help to define media beyond categories and credits.)
  3. Drag & drop files into the target area or use the Select Files button to open the finder and choose files to upload.
  4. Click the Upload Files button and wait for the upload to complete. (A progress bar will appear)

Tip: Do not close the uploader while files are uploading.

Note: Categories, Credits and Tags can also be assigned to existing files in the Media Library. Learn more about: Categories and Credits

Upload to Projects

  1. Within a Project, click the Upload icon to launch the Web Uploader.
  2. Select the Folder to upload the media to from the Select Folder drop down.
  3. Optionally, add file descriptions and add tags. (Adding both will make your content more searchable.)
  4. Drag & drop files to the target area or use the Select Files button to open the finder to choose files to upload.
  5. Click the Upload Files button and wait for the upload to complete. (A progress bar will appear)

Tip: Do not close the uploader while files are uploading.

Note: If Step 3 is skipped, Descriptions or Tags can be added by clicking into a file and entering the information on the File Data tab in the file detail view.

Uploading via RTVE

To upload files via the RTVE:

  1. Launch the RTVE. If the RTVE has not been installed, download it here.
  2. Enter the required login information:
    - Account specific Simian URL (http://companyName.gosimian.com)
    - Username
    - Password
  3. Choose an Upload location in either the Media Library or Projects.
  4. Change the Video Aspect Ratio from the dropdown located to the right of the video title in the Upload Media Files section.
  5. Select Upload Files to encode/upload. (A progress bar will appear.)

Note: Encoding queues of 25 videos or less is recommended for best performance.

Note: Checking Preserve Original will create an encoded, playable proxy file, however, the original file will uploaded and available by download.
